Permanent Cosmetics
Looking good has never been this
easy!
At the top of many women’s beauty lists is a way to
permanently improve facial appearance.
Mary Arnold, a registered nurse for more than 30
years, 20 of which were spent in a dermatology office, provides a
long-term, yet simple solution—permanent cosmetics.
“Many people tend not to follow through on their
New Year’s resolutions once the year moves along, but they shouldn’t let
go of them so fast,” said Arnold, founder of Professional Permanent Cosmetics (sm), located at 6879-B W. Charleston in Executive Park West. “My
business gives women an easy way to look beautiful and vibrant 24 hours
a day, seven days a week.”
Permanent makeup, also called micro-pigmentation,
offers a safe, hassle-free option to daily topical cosmetic application.
In fact, it is a tattooing process performed by skilled technicians, in
which pigments are inserted into the dermal layer of the skin.
Among its most popular procedures are permanent
coloring of eyebrows, lips, eyeliner or eyelash enhancer. Procedures can
camouflage scars, simulate hair on bald spots, and restore breast
appearance following a mastectomy for breast cancer treatment.
Correcting uneven skin pigmentation and disguising scarring from severe
burns or reconstructive surgery are other popular treatments.
Arnold said she’s had great success in covering
over tattoos. One patient told her he had 11 laser treatments to remove
his tattoo, but nothing worked until he had two treatments at
Professional Permanent Cosmetics (sm).
Women of all ages seek permanent makeup, including
seniors whose facial features diminish as they age. The treatment can
erase years from your face as it brings back the contrast and definition
you had when you were younger.
According to Arnold, “The process helps redefine
their features again.” She said, “The majority of my clients are
seniors. I’ve done people from 18 to 81.”
She added, “Permanent cosmetics gives women a
natural beauty around the clock and saves them time in applying
makeup.”
Eye makeup is a big reason many use the treatment.
Red eyes, sore eyes, dry eyes and puffy eyes can be symptoms caused by
allergies that makeup wearers suffer on a regular basis. “Disappearing”
eyebrows is also a popular reason to get permanent makeup.
Is the process painful?
“It depends on the person doing it,” Arnold said.
“The majority of it is pretty painless. It depends on the person’s
tolerance. I do use some excellent anesthetics. For eyebrows and lips,
I’ve had people fall asleep on my table.”
Eyebrow treatments include consultation, procedure,
anesthetic and a follow-up to correct and even out the color. The
process takes about 60 – 90 minutes and costs $450.
Lip treatments last about 90 minutes and cost about
$600.
Arnold has become known as a correction specialist;
she fixes mistakes made by other permanent cosmetic technicians. More
than 50 percent of her clients fit into this category. “This is your
face and it’s permanent, so it should be done right the first time,” she
emphasized.
Established in 1993, Professional Permanent Cosmetics (sm) provides safe, sterile and permanent makeup procedures for
appearance enhancement and restoration. A member of the Society of
Permanent Cosmetics Professionals (SPCP), Arnold was on the SPCP Board
of Directors for two years.
