Get it done right the first
time—make sure you know your permanent cosmetic technician
People considering getting permanent makeup need to do
their homework before committing to a technician, otherwise the results
could be disastrous. Mary Arnold, founder of Professional Permanent Cosmetics (sm), knows first-hand the importance of looking into the skills
and experience of technicians.
More than half of the people she has worked on have been people who
needed to get work redone or required corrective procedures due to
technicians who should not have been practicing. While some technicians
may offer inexpensive services, it does not necessarily mean the service
is worth it, especially if it means that the client will need to go to
someone else to get the work fixed.
Arnold suggests researching the permanent makeup technician’s
experience, including how long they have been in business, what
organizations they are associated with whether they have done the type
of procedure you are requesting (especially for more complicated
procedures involving color fading), what other procedures they practice
and reviewing the before and after photos. It is also important that
references are checked.
Because it is permanent, it is important that you do everything right
the first time.
Arnold, who testified at the Nevada State Legislature for the assembly
and senate committee’s on commerce and labor in conjunction with the
Clark County Health District to pass legislation statewide to regulate
the practice of permanent cosmetics and help to enforce tougher
standards for training and continuing education in the field, brings
more than 25 years experience as a registered nurse to the permanent
makeup industry.
Prior to starting her own business, Arnold served for more than 10 years
as a permanent makeup artist and more than 20 years as a dermatology
nurse. She has had extensive training and experience, and has
established a reputation as a specialist in color adjustments and
corrective procedures.
She sits on the board of directors as chair of health and safety for the
national Society of Permanent Makeup Professionals, a member of the Las
Vegas Chamber of Commerce, the Nevada Women’s Chamber of Commerce,
Better Business Bureau and the National Association for Women Business
Owners. For more information, call 702-360-4260 or go to
